June 29th, 2009 by wanda, under Stories. No Comments
The Beltrami County Historical Society announced the unveiling of, Puzzle Trail, a new history adventure designed for the entire family.
Puzzle Trail will lead participants to ten historic sites in Beltrami County, all of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Each location reveals a clue, requires an answer and the last stop is key to solving the final history puzzle. While supplies last, puzzle-solvers will receive a goldtone collectible medallion.
As each stop on the Puzzle Trail has designated points of latitude and longitude, this adventure will be of interest to Geocachers. The sites along the Trail are virtual geocaches, or Waymarks, whose location can be found by using hand held GPS units or by using maps and standard street addresses. Clues for this unique historical experience are listed on brochures available at the History Center, 130 Minnesota Ave. SW and various Bemidji locations including Lake Bemidji State Park and Bemidji Tourist Information Center. The Puzzle Trail is also listed on-line in the Waymark Tour section of the Waymarking web site, www.waymarking.com, with a link to “Beltrami County History Puzzle Trail.”
An orientation class is available for individuals to learn about GPS units, Geocaching and Waymarking. The class, “GeoTrek 101,” will be held at noon on July 15, 18 and 22 at the History Center. Participants will be introduced to the use of GPS units and will team-up to find several geocaches in the downtown Bemidji area. GPS units will also be available to borrow. To register for the GeoTrek class, call 218-444-3376.
