About the event
The Bemidji Public Library and Beltrami County Historical Society are excited to welcome Cecelia McKeig to the library at 509 America Avenue Saturday, March 12, at 2 p.m. Ms. McKeig, an author and historian, will lead a discussion about the Battle of Sugar Point, an often-overlooked moment in American History that took place on the shores of Leech Lake in 1898.
A native of Bemidji, Ms. McKeig has been devoted to the study of local history for as long as she can remember and has written numerous books, including The Battle of Sugar Point. The discussion will focus on the events leading up to the conflict at Sugar Point, and its effects on Indigenous people throughout Minnesota. Join us at the library, Saturday, March 12th, or streaming on the library Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/BemidjiPublicLibrary. Ms. McKeigs's books and others about local and regional history are available at the Beltrami County History Center.
This is a FREE program and registration is NOT required. Â This program, and many others, is made possible through the Minnesota Legacy Amendment that supports the arts, culture, and heritage of Minnesota.
